Warm Thoughts for the Holidays

Are you excited for the holidays? Seriously, Christmas is only 10 days away, and I cannot believe how quickly time has passed. I want to send out a big “Congratulations” to those responsible people who had strategically planned and prepared for this time of year! I bet your Christmas trees are already beautifully decorated and stuffed full of wonderfully wrapped gifts. I’m slightly envious of your “I’m on top of my game” abilities.

I would like to classify myself in that charming group called “the rest of us.” Members of this group like to define their holiday behavior as “risky.” We tend to live on the edge, a daredevil of sorts in regard to our gift giving choices.  Our logical action plan is to stalk the sales, waiting to the proverbial last minute when the final holiday storm hits and the sea of (fellow) holiday shoppers swell and crash like waves of (almost there) bah-hum-bug attitudes.  We are the Evel Knievals of our chosen profession, and we like it!

Tis the season to sparkle and shine! Whether you’re at a holiday party or out with friends attending a New Years Eve bash, there is always room for your style to shine this holiday season!

Holiday Style with Nick Bakhitiari

Meet Nick.

 

This handsome bloke is an Area Manager for Glik’s. Mr. Nick oversees several of our Minnesota & South Dakota store locations. A self-proclaimed fan of the holidays, Nick enjoys cold weather, warm layers and cozy evenings by the fire. Should I also mention that he likes hot cocoa with bits of marshmallows, long walks outside and holiday movies, or does that sound like too much?

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us and Nick (a.k.a Santa’s Helper) sat down with me for a bit of Q & A.  I would like to mention that this “preppy, yet casual” character has a few items that he thinks would make everyone’s season brighter!

Me: What would you say is one thing that you absolutely cannot live without this fall/winter season?

Nick: Every guy needs a good pair of boots to wear during the cooler weather. I live in Minnesota and we have very unpredictable weather. I wear boots all the time out of necessity.

Me: There are so many fun trends for this Holiday season. What is your favorite trend so far?

Nick: Designer and patterned socks. I’m going crazy for them right now. I’m also loving eco-friendly outdoor gear. Renew & reuse!  

Me: Lastly, would you share with us what your top 3 picks are for this Holiday season?

Nick: For the ladies, I would definitely have to suggest the Women’s Better Sweater Jacket from Patagonia. I am a big fan of this environmentally-friendly brand.  Like I said before, I am addicted to boots; they’re a must-have for winter. Every guy needs a decent collection of long sleeve pullovers in their wardrobe. I have a ton, and I layer them up under jackets when it is cold.

Meet LeaAnn.

 

Have you ever heard the statement “Dynamite comes in small packages”? You will believe the truth in this statement if you ever have a chance encounter with this spunky lady. LeaAnn is a Regional Manager for Glik’s, she has seen this company along with its fashion grow & flourish like wildflowers. Let’s not forget to mention LeaAnn’s blooming style is as colorful and chic as her personality.

Since we are so close to the “most wonderful time of the year,” I just had to have a little Q & A with LeaAnn and get her choice picks for the holidays.

Me: So LeaAnn, how would you describe your personal style?

LeaAnn: I love pieces that are comfortable yet trendy.

 

Me: What would you say is one thing that you can absolutely not live without this fall/winter season?

LeaAnn:  Boots, Boots, Boots! Boots with jeggings, Boots with leggings, and Boots with dresses!

 

Me: There are so many fun trends for this Holiday season. What is your favorite trend so far?

LeaAnn: Sweater dresses! They are warm, cozy, and go great with leggings and boots!

 

Me: Lastly, would you share with us what your top 3 picks are for this Holiday season?

LeaAnn: Sure. I, of course, love the Marilou sweater dress. I am also a HUGE fan of fashion boots; pair them with skinny denim, tights or leggings. For the guys I would definitely have to suggest the Men’s Better Sweater from Patagonia. I just love this eco-friendly brand.

Black Friday

Black Friday. It’s the day after Thanksgiving Day in the United States and is traditionally known as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this crazy day, many major retailers will open their stores EXTREMELY early, some even go as far as to open their doors on Thanksgiving (bananas, right?) BUT for the most part, the whole point of (braving) Black Friday is to take advantage of all the promotional sales offered by retailers.

What We’re Wearing for Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving I’m in the mood for wearing layers to make the day a bit cozier.  I love the Uri Sweater from BB Dakota because it’s loose/flowy fit and all over southwestern pattern is eye catching. I’ve teamed a dark wash pair of Suki Jeggings with the multicolor BB Dakota sweater because I love the mid-rise, relaxed through the hip & thigh fit that this Silver Jeans Co. denim boasts.  The 78% Cotton/ 20% Polyester/ 2% Spandex fabric content of this jegging provides just enough stretch to add an extra helping of turkey to my plate (this girl likes to go for seconds). To complete this relaxed holiday look,  I have decided to add a boho chic pair of fringe ankle boots like the Wynonna Boot from Sbicca and our Bullseye Cuff (love).

 

Creating a new outfit for Thanksgiving is always fun and adds an extra dash of happy to an already great day! Don’t let the current economic situation get you down.  Brush the grey and gloominess off your chic shoulders and embrace a fashion trend that’s sending out positive vibes.  “Vintage” Americana reminds us all of more prosperous eras of the past.

Essentially, Americana represents taking pride in our American heritage, and we are seeing this trend carried off the runways, across the markets, and down to the streets.

Going Green for St. Patty’s Day
